unable to login to functioning AIX 5.3

My AIX 5.3 machine does not accept logins. The error messgaes are:

Could not load program telnetd:
Dependent module libbsd.a(shr.o) could not be loaded.
Could not load module libbsd.a(shr.o).
System error: No such file or directory

Any ideas on how to recover from this?

You will need to login to the system console.
If it is an LPAR, use the HMC. If it's a P4 or older system you will have to connect a serial console to tty0.
Begin your troubleshooting from there.
