Hi all,

Heres the scoop:

-Server is running Server 2k3 Standard
-All workstations/laptops are running Windows XP Pro
-All workstations/laptops are joined to the domain and they all have roaming user profiles

There are 2 laptops on the network that leave the building almost every night. Probably 90% of the time that they try to log in when they are not on the local network they get an error message saying that their password is incorrect. I first assumed user error, but I have confirmed that they are typing in their password correctly. I have googled this error message, but have not had any luck in finding a solutions.

Any ideas?

When they are disconnected from the network, do they still attempt to use their domain credentials to logon. It's quite possible you have disabled cached logons therefore their passwords are not in sync.

Yes, they still use thier domain credentials to logon.

How do I cehck on the server to see if Ive disabled cached logons?

Check for the following registry key on the affect laptops

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
"DisableDomainCreds"="1"

If this is set to '1' then caching is disabled

You could also check the local security policy on the laptop and make sure the "Interactive logon: Number of previous logons to cache (in case domain controller is not available)" policy is not set to 0.
