I have been asked to help set up a small home network for some friends of mine. They have 2 systems, a laptop and a desktop P.C. Both are running XP Home operating systems. I went in and set up their networks, ran a cable and mapped the shared hard drives on each system.
Everything is working in the shared folders except for the Access databases. I can view anything on the drives. I can open Word or Excel documents from either system. I cannot get to the database that contains the data for the sales system they are trying to use.
A further explanation: On the laptop is the frontend software and the backend data. The data is in a separate directory from the frontend software. I did this so they could take the portable on trips and still work on their data. On the desktop PC I have the front end with links to the backend data on the portable. The link is established via a mapping in Windows explorer. I either get an error that says file does not exist or file is locked by another user.
I have checked all databases, they are set for no-record locking and all folders are set for share.
Thanks for any help.

MD.

I've used linked tables in the past and whenever I move the DBs I have to relink the tables through "Tools" "Linked Table Manager".

That may help.
