Any idea's??????

I am trying to install VS 7.0 on W2K. But I am not sure why this is not letting me install it. Funny thing is that windows tells me to talk to the vendor and mcafee tells me to look at MS. So funny.I have had no luck so far and Mcafee has not emailed me back.

A few questions and a few suggestions...

Which Service Pack are you running for W2k? If you are not on SP3, try it, then retry the install.

Check the runtime version of Windows Installer, type msiexec at the Startup>>Run dialog box. The latest (I think) is V 2.00.2600.2

If you don't have the latest "msiexec" download it from MS. Search for Windows Installer. Also check out this link about your error message:

Lastly, re-download the VSE7 install files from Mcafee. Could be your install files are corrupt, maybe not all, but a few important ones.

Good Luck!!

Run Windows installer clean up utility then clean registry of all VS enyrys and reinstall

Thanks guys, I have SP3 and have re-installed it. Also, the error code i looked up after it failed and tried to re-install the installer but it failed. I am going to try this once more. also, I am unfamilar with the installer clean up utility, can I tell it to clean specific entries?

The Windows installer clean up utility just rips out the cached windows installer files for the problematic program on the local machine. In other words, when you choose the program to "clean up", you are telling the local Windows Installer service to remove (from it's own database)any history of ever installing the problematic program, in this case VSE7.

It basically allows Windows Installer to treat your next installtion attempt as if it's the first time you are trying to install, like a clean slate.

The manual registry cleanup is also recommended, look in HKLM-Software for any references to Network Associates or Virus Scan AFTER using the aforementioned utility.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks mc,
I had found several articles related to your method but i am kinda warry about going forward with it. I guess I have no choice now but to try--or, actually, see if I can download Norton or InoculateIT. But, you are most likely right since all solutions I am finding point to the same thing. Also thanks for the additional heads up on the mcafee forums page rls.
