Hi,
I am trying to install a IBM eServer machine with Red Hat Linux 2.1 Advanced Server Operating system.
The server has 512MB RAM and 35GB Hot swappable SCSI hard disk.
When I started to install with first CD of the OS,after selecting the language, mouse type, etc, unable to partition the harddisk. The following error is displayed:
"An error occured-no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem"
But on the same machine I am able to isntall Red Hat 8.0 instead.
Could anybody throw some light on this??
Thanks,
sas

hi folks,
I found the answer on my own. Its the limitation of Red Hat linux 2.1 advanced server. Finally, able to find the answer and solution in Red Hat website.
For your information, here is a set of steps to follow:

Steps to install Red Hat Linux 2.1 Advanced Server on an IBM eServer:

• Go to following link And download
1. boot-AS-2.1-bladecenter-1.0.img
2. AS-2.1-dd.img
• Using “rawrite” or “dd” utilities, transfer the downloaded images into two different floppies
• Boot the server with boot-AS-2.1-bladecenter-1.0.img image floppy.
• Now you will be prompted to select the type of install. Type “linux dd” and press Enter key.
• This will prompt you to insert the driver diskette. Please remove the boot disk and insert the AS-2.1-dd.img image floppy and go through the user friendly steps.
• After driver installation you need to insert the Red Hat 2.1 Advanced Server CD (First CD) and continue with normal installation procedures.

Once the installation is complete, take care not to install any kernel update previous to the 2.4.9-e.12 kernel as those kernels do not contain the updated drivers needed for proper SCSI and network functionality.

Special Note: If you are using rawrite for image transfer to floppy disk, Please ensure that, the file names are in dos format. i.e. rename both the files with 8 character name with .img extension.

Regards,
Sas
