Hi folks,

I ran into some problems while trying to install AIX 5.1.0 Maintenance Package.

After following the instructions as mentioned below ...

---------------------------

cd /usr/sys/inst.images
gzip -d -c 510002.tar.gz | tar -xvf
inotuc /usr/sys/inst.images
installp -acgXd /usr/sys/inst.images bos.rte.install

-----------------------------

i tried smit update_all which produced the following output:

geninstall:
The specified device /usr/sys/inst.images is not a valid device or file ...

What's wrong here ?
Any Ideas ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards
Thomas

I don'nt know, if this can help you:

I had problems during installing ML2, too.

Then I had problems, installing the documentation
server.

So I installed some missing components of the documentation server (and docsearch).

After the documentation server worked properly, I was able
to install ML2 correctly.

I never understood this behaviour. Perhaps ML2 must update
some components that are used by docsearch?!?

Perhaps these infos may help you.

I had heard about issues with the 5.1ML2 install and rather than doing the initial "installp -acgXd /usr/sys/inst.images bos.rte.install" and just did an update_all for the whole thing. Done this way everything has gone straight on without any issues to the 6 boxes I have done so far. The install detected that it had to update itself 1st and merrily went on its way.
