I'm having a heck of a time getting the Client Agent for NT/2000 installed on one of my servers. The server is running Windows NT SP6, and I'm logged in as Administrator. I've checked that Administrator has every access right available under User Manager\User Rights\Advanced, but when I attempt the install, it goes along fine until it tries to start the service, at which point I receive the following:
Error 1920.Service Client for ARCserve (Client Agent for
ARCserve) failed to start. Verify that you have
sufficient privileges to start system services.
Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,

From NT User Manager, select the Administrator account and click the Show Advanced User Rights check box, then select Policies...User Rights... from the menu bar.

Give the Administrator rights to Log on as a Service. Monkeylizard

I've already done that and still get the same results. I'm stumped.

hmmm....did you restart NT after making those changes to Administrator? Monkeylizard

Yeah, last night the server was rebooted with the same results. I also tried with another admin-equivalent user with the same results. I can't find anything on Microsoft's site regarding it, and the one article at CA that pertains to that error doesn't apply.

You need to add as well "act as part of the operating system", if all else fails, then get the service to "log on as" and then input a domain administrator with the two above mentioned rights, i.e log on as a service, and act as part of the operating system...

Same thing happened to me today.
I had three agents to install on three brand new installations that I did, so I know they were right.
I installed the first locally - no problem.

Installed the second locally. - Error 1920
Did all the permissions thing...same result...
Went to CA site (waste of time)
Tried to installed remotely... - Success...

Installed the third. Hung on remote install.
Tried local install - Error 1920
Tried remote install once more before calling it a day.
Success.

Don't ask me why....I think it works if the software is in a good mood. The CD I got from CA fails when installing. It tries to inflate a CAB file on the CD. Solution. Copy all the files to the HD and run setup. DUH!

So that was a full day for what should have been a simple three agent install. Tried to save money on the cost of the software... Next time I'll spend the extra on Backup Exec.

Yeah rob... Check the version of MSI your running.... If you have the latest CD from CA you will need at least the MSI associated with the install of explorer 5.5 (or simply run instmsiw from the arcserve CD to update the MSI on your systems). The KEY CLUE here was the fact that you said they were new systems, so the MSI would not have been updated then ay?
