I had the following setup last year which worked:

solaris compatible scsi card
bootable scsi cd-rw
2x scsi drives.

I transfered the above setup to my PC, however recently I decided to get back on to my sun ultra 10 system. So I transfered the scsi setup back to the ultra 10.
However when try to install solaris 9 I get the following error messages: strplumb: can't install module drv/ip, err -1....
followed by a screen full of relocation error messages from /kernel/drv/sparcv9/ifp.

So I tried solaris 8, with that I got a segmentation fault and an error about unable to mount tmpfs.

So whats going on, is my hardware dying???????????

Like I said before this setup worked last year. All this was also working fine in my PC.

thanks,

I vaguely remember problems like this once another filesystem has been placed on the drives.
You need to rewrite a solaris partition layout on the drive if I remember it correctly, definatly for the 0 and 1 slice which hold root & swap.
I'm guessing it will involve booting from the cdrom and creating the correct slices on the drive if the system sees them and format likes them, which most likely it will.
Furthermore, I remember something about cd's being toasted on higher then 2x speed generating all sorts of errors too and something about DMA mode on certain cdroms too.
Furthermore, I dunno how a compatible scsi card that normally can be configured in a PC during boot time (card bios setup menu) but I dunno how to do this in openboot?
(i'm only familiar with sun branded symbios scsi cards)
Maybe you need to reseat it in a x86 mobo and check the card configuration for possible problems when moving it to an ultra10.

good luck
