I've been trying to add a hyperlink to a website to my email signature. The hyperlink appears but nothing happens when I click on it. I've checked the hyperlink information and it appears as type http: with the correct url address complete with . I've also tried enclosing the url address in <> but that hasn't helped either. The problem appears on my emails on my machine before I send them, and also on the recepients' emails. Has anyone ecountered this, and, if so, how did they solve it? Thank you.

What mail client sofware are we talking about? How was the signature created? Does a manually typed url in the message work properly? What is the default sending format of the messages?

When I add a url to the body of the email it doesn't work properly.

I created the signature in outlook 2003 by going into tools / options / mail format /signatures / new. I then created the signatture with the url address and went into advanced edit to make sure the url was set up as a hyperlink.

I don't know what the default sending format is, and I'm no sure where to look it up.

The format is HTML.

Also, although when I add a url to the body of the email it doesn't work properly, urls to work when they come in on email from third parties.

I've managaed to solve it. After your last message I tried the different formats, and found that having my emails in rich text format got the hyperlink working.

If you send mail to other people on the internet that might not use Outlook, don't use RTF; they won't receive the message properly. We need to figure out why it won't work with HTML. If a hyperlink won't work in the body of an html message, there's something wrong with the Outlook itself.

Have a look at the Tools, Options, Mail Format tab. Check both the Internet Format button & International Options button - specifically the encoding settings. What do you see?

Yep. I agree. Don't use RTF. And, depending on the email client that the recipient is using, even plain text will work with hyperlinks.

If smah's comment doesn't lead to a resolution, do a detect & repair (on the HELP menu) of Outlook. If that doesn't work, try creating a new profile.

I've changed it back to html now.

In international options the general settings are both blank, and there is a tick in the encoding options the auto select is ticked and is in western european encoding.

The internet options have a tick in the html options, and are set to convert to html format for rich text options.

That looks right as well. Will a hyperlink in the body work if you use Word as the e-mail editor? - Tools, Options, Mail Format tab, Use Microsoft Word to edit...

That seems to work now. Thank you for all your help.
