Unable to insert field object in Crystal 8.5

I have a report that I built in 8.5 a couple of weeks ago. I saved it and added it to visual sourcesafe.

I needed to add some more fields to the report, so I checked it out. When I tried everything worked as it should, except the insert box it produced for the field had a circle with a slash through it beside the box. When I place it where I want it, everything disappears. The new field is not inserted.

It is as if the report was write protected. But I checked that and no problem there. Is there a setting in Crystal that I am missing?

Did you do a database->Verify Database?

I had thought of verifying the database. It did not help. I tried it again, as stranger things have happened. I still can not insert a field. I passed it on to two co-workers and one is able to do it and the other is not. I have not been able to figure out the difference.
