Hi,

I have created the universe on local drive using admin user. I tried to import the same from supervisor into repository, when i browse for the universes from universes folder, my universe is not displaying in the folder. Can you guys help me out..

I am new to BO..Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Naveen

Hi Naveen,
If you want to export Universe to Repository, open BO designer (not supervisor)go to File--> Export--> Add--> then select your universe from your local drive, click ok.Then you ill get a message saying that your universe sucefully exported. This is the way to export or import universes from repository.
The export/import options in Supervisor are for User export/import.

Vani,

Not necessarily one has to use Designer to Export Universe to Repository. One can also use Supervisor to Export and Import Universe. There are two Import / Export Features in Supervisor. As you told it can be used to Import / Export User/Groups. But there is also Import Universe and Export Universe to import and exporting universe to the repository. I don't know what exactly Naveen was doing. I hope he selects Tools - > Export Universes - > Click Add and select the Universe file and click ok. It will exported to Repository and then if needed you might have to define the connection.

Hi Sri,
I can understand what you are saying, yes! we can export or import universe from Supervisor. If you look at Naveen's thread, he mentioned I am new to BO. Any help would be appreciated . If any one New to BO definitely there is a possibility for confusion between export/import options in Supervisor. Hence i suggested Naveen to use Designer-, which is pretty straightforward.

Vani,

Correct but what I was trying to say is since Naveen is trying this in Supervisor I thought I will clear this doubt w.r.t Supervisor and not with Designer. Thats it. Nothing much.

Is it possible to import/export universe without having the Supervisor or Designer tool. So with only the Business Objects reporting tool on your PC? Because I have only the Business Objects reporting tool, I received a new .unv file from a colleague, copied in the universes directory, but it is every time overwritten with an ancien version when I open Business Objects: don't know where it is getting this previous version from, but this is the case.

Do you log in to BO? You must ahve the same universe in your repository.

I don't know what version you are using, but.... If you are putting the universe in universe directory and not the universe/universe one, you'll be fine.

I have BO version 5.1.5.
I do log in to BO.
But when I start creating a report after having copied the .unv file in the Universe directory it is immediately overwritten with a previous version of the universe. So I am missing the adaptations made.

Then the universe in the repository is "newer". That's how it's supposed to work.

You need to either export your changes to the repository OR log in to the client in offline mode. Then you'll be able to use the local universe and run queries.
