Unable to Format

Unable to format tape during backup or even manually.

Following error message received:

Device <1> Format failed!
UNRECOVERABLE DATA ERROR

Any help / ideas greatly appreciated!

did you try a quick erase plus on the media? Does this happen with all media or one specific one?

Hi Guru,

Quick erase plus ends up with the same error message.

I have tried several different tapes as well as cleaning the drive with no luck.

Any other ideas?

itmt....had a few of these in the past, if you've tried the erase plus a few times and still having no luck then the media is dead.
But....you'll probably find that the manufacturer will take the media back, most have lifetime guarantees.

Sorry it hasn't fixed your tape though.

Hmmmm, you may want to try the NT backup program. If this has a problem erasing or formatting as well, then I hate to say it, it's not a software problem. It either means your tape drive is buggered or the scsi cable is budggered..
