After applayng the SP4 I get the followings errors on 3 backup server:

- The Jobs failed
- W3831 Unable to find any media.
- Mount media request cancelled by user or by default timeout.
- W3832 Unable to find a blank media.

I have also applayed the followings patches below and contacted several times CA support without success:

Q029368;QO20824;QO22113;QO23827;QO27928;QO27941;QO27942

I have also rebuit one server from scratch without success.
The equipment that I'am using is the followings:

- Compaq Proliant with Compaq SCSI III (Adaptec 39160)
- Compaq Library MSL5026 SL (Super-DLT)

At the moment the only way to fix this problem is to stop and restart all engines.

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't think it's the SP. Look at the Options for the Job. There is a possibility that you have selected the Media rather than the Tape Device in the Destination Tab. If you select the Tape Device the job will run with whatever Media is in the Tape Device, however, if you select a specific Media the job will only run if that specific Media is inserted. Look at this first.

I will assure you that everythinsgs is correct and in addition why this problem come-up with 3 servers?

Other point, why if I reinstall Arcserve 2000 with SP3
is working??

This is a very crazy problem because I tried all the possibility, also to recreate the jobs.

Otherwise, why is working for a while when I shut-down ansd then I restart the services?

Regards

We have the same Problem I have it too when you find a fix then please inform me! Thanks in Advance... I have also created a Problem Ticked by CA for this problem.

I had same problem. Arcserve with SP4 will no longer append a custom job to a tape that has been GFS labelled.

Same problem here too.

You know I think Arcserve sucks. I also use Veritas Backup Exec which never causes this problem.

Arcserve tech support is no help since they cannot fix the problem.

I wish ever client used Veritas and scrapped Arcserve.

(I originally posted this in another thread, but it seems relevant here as well.)

A few weeks ago our backup job began failing. Most of the failures were due to E3714 "Unable to write to media" but a few were due to W3831 "Unable to find any media". I had stashed some data on our server just before the failures began -- and this pushed the size of the data backup selection over the limit of our tape drive. I deleted the data that I stashed (it turned out to be corrupt, so I no longer needed it), and the errors went away.

I've noticed that ARCserve sometimes creates an entry in the activity log just prior to either of these errors instructing the user to insert another tape. (This only happened once on our server.)

OUR CONFIGURATION
controller: Initio INI-A100U2W PCI SCSI
tape drive: Seagate STD624000N (12/24GB DAT)
OS: Windows 2000 Server SP2 + Security Rollup Package
software: ARCserve 2000 7.0 Advanced Edition (Build 1086)

BTW, the majority of our server-equipped customers have Backup Exec. I would say my ratio of frustration with VERITAS to troubleshooting Backup Exec is about equal to my ratio of frustration with Computer Associates to troubleshooting ARCserve. Oh, and get this: I'm told that Backup Exec for NT/2000 Server 9.0 looks and acts like ARCserve!
