Unable to enter a formula

Using Excel 2007.
I have a few cells that I need to enter formulas.
Most work fine, however, I have some that display the formulat itself, instead of the result.
Can someone tell me how to format the cell so it displays the result of the formula?

Found a solution.
I used the formula tab to insert the function rather than
typing it into the cell.
