I have a Windows 2000 SP2 workstation that is unable to click on a folder in the right windows exporer pane and have it open. I've checked all the view settings. When clicking on a folder in the right pane it seems to open and close a window to quickly to see what it is. You have to right click on the folder and explore to open it. User did install Spekan Purge to delete old Pro/E files by right clicking on folder and selecting purge from the menu.. I unistalled the utility but problem still remains. Any Ideas ???

Thanks,

This may be silly but you did confirm it's a folder?

You said you've checked all the Views but did you check the Properties?

Is this folder a user restricted networked folder?

Have you tried scandisk/chkdsk from mmc?

Hello Ifoldesi,

Yes, it could be silly. I would suggest you open up registry with regedit.exe and look into the default setting of the keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\Folder\shell\open\command]
and
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\Folder\shell\explore\command]

Do they point to the explorer.exe? If not, then it explains the phenomenon.

For win2k, you can make the two-line .bat file and run it.
Code:
ftype ftype folder=%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /idlist,%I,%L
assoc folder=folder

You should recollect how it happens. If no reason found, then you should run virus scan.
