The PC is a Compaq Pentium III 450 MHz Deskpro, running Win 98 SE with 128 MB RAM. I recently had to reinstall WordPerfect 9 Suite and am unable to disable the CorelCENTRAL Alarms and Corel Registration startup items. I run MSCONFIG, and uncheck and Apply the two line items, and on reboot they come up checked again (and running). Any suggestions?
Thanks,
David

Did you reboot immediately after closing msconfig? If you do not, and then have a lock up, you may lose your msconfig changes.

I have done it more than once and continue to get the same applications loaded. (This also happens for Quicken Startup and Acrobat Assistant.) I interpret this as a version of spam: unwanted programs that insist you want them, even though you don't! (Reminds me of some telemarketers.)

My recollection is that the CorelCENTRAL Alarms and Corel Registration icons are added to the startup folder at installation. You should not have to use msconfig - just go to Start - Programs - Startup and right click and delete the icons.

Thanks, Don - worked fine. Got rid of those pesky critters.
