I am trying to restore an important mailbox for Exchange 5.5 from a backup tape using Veritas 8.0.
I have a standbyserver (NT 4.0 SP6a) configured as the original with Exchange 5.5 (SP3) to restore the whole of the Information Store to before exporting the mailbox to the original server.
The strange thing is that I've run several restores from the tapes already, which have failed for various reasons, but they still seem to run part way through the process. Before I was getting account access errors etc., which I overcame by putting the new server in the same domain. The last time I ran a restore, it ran for about an hour, then the standbyserver ran out of disk space. I reconfigured the server to make sure there will be enough disk space now, so I really thought it was going to work this time. But ever since then I cannot seem to run a restore at all. It just fails immediately with the message 'Unable to determine ADAMM media identification. Catalog query failed.'
I've tried to restore from 4 different tapes, running an inventory on them first, and selecting the correct tape in the restore job. I've tried cataloging the tapes as well, but it tells me they have already been catalogued. I've been very careful not to overwrite any of the tapes, but none of them seem to work like they did before. I've looked up the error message in the documentation and on the internet and can find nothing.
Any ideas? Could it be something to do with the media pool not being correctly configured or something?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Justin.
