Unable to create PDF

My Quark6.1 document has links to illustrator files in it. when i try to export the document as a PDF, it says "Unable to create the file". Is there something hidden within the illustrator files? how could i find this out? I can correct this by opening the illustrator files in photoshop and saving over the originals as a PHOTOSHOP EPS but there must be a way to find out the culprit without doing so. any ideas?

the easiest way it to delete the illustrator files and try to output your doc as a pdf. If it works you have a problem with your graphics. If not you have other issues.
