Unable to copy monthly Rman backup to tape

We are a new client of commvault(Simpana 8.0). We just installed the rman client and are running daily full backups. When the commvault tech was onsite to set this up with the dba, he created 3 subclients-archivelogs, client and selective backup. We run the rman backup from the client, submitted via crontab. When I run the daily aux copies, the db backup is on those tapes. When I ran the monthly aux copy, only the filesystem backup for that client is copied to tape. I opened a case with Commvault, and now they are saying that I need to run the Selective backup for the monthly. I spoke to the dba (who is a vendor and not onsite and never saw commvault before), and he is unsure of what commvault is talking about. Is this true what commvault says?

This is correct. In order to create a secondary "selective" copy (monthly aux copy in your case) of your oracle data, your original source oracle backup must be run as a "Selective Online Full".
