Dear Gurus,

I have looked through the forum and I couldn't find this question. If it has already been answered then please accept my apologies.

The Problem:-
I have WAMP running on a PC behind a WIFI router.

I have set the PC to have a Static IP Address and then modified the Port Forwarding on the router to open the port 58820 for that Static IP Address.

I have modified the Apache file httpd.conf to "Listen 58820"

Behind the router, the other computers can view the home page with the PC's Static IP address and the port (eg 192.168.0.20:58820)

Then using I checked to see if the port is open and it says that it is.

However when I try to remotely access the WAMP server from the internet with the port number (eg 120.103.10.54:58820) Firefox displays a screen saying "Unable to Connect"

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong or how to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance

Given what you describe, the first thing I would try is bypassing the router. You know from the LAN side connections that Apache is working, but you aren't getting connections through the router.

check your firewall settings again, the port isn't open, it's in a filtered state

Interesting ports on (120.103.10.54):
Port State Service
58820/tcp filtered unknown

Thank you Noway2 and normntwrk for your replies.

I would like to ask normntwrk for more details on how to check if the port is open or filtered.

Is it displayed somewhere in the Windows Firewall settings ?

I forgot to mention in my initial message that I am using Window 7.

I am new to using Windows 7, so if you can tell me where I should be looking for the information I'd be very happy.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks normntwrk,

I change the port to 987 and then ran the "all service port probe" in the link that you provided and it found 987 to be open.

So it seems like the port is open however when I tried to connect remotely I still have the same "Unable to connect"

Sorry for bothering you but do you have any other ideas as to what the problem might be ?

Sorry don't know, I'd check any Antivirus apps to make sure they aren't blocking it (should be a log) , check windows firewall, make an exception for that port. Check firewall log if it has one

that's what comes to mind

Norm

Thanks again Norm,

I had already created a special open port rule in the firewall and switched off the Antivirus but to no end.

Thank you very much for your time that you have spent on the problem.

I will continue to trawl the internet to see if I can find an answer. If I do I will be sure to let everyone know so they don't have the same problem.

If I can't find anything then I think that I might have to revert to noway's suggestion of bypassing the wifi router.

Take care of yourself.

A bit of a long shot, but do you perchance have windows firewall blocking the port?

Thanks Noway2,

I had created a new rule to open the port in firewall but it didn't work. I had also turned off the firewall at one point to see if that would solve the problem but unfortunately it didn't work.

Thank you for the advice.
