Hello

Running SQL 2005 - since the weekend, we have been unable to login using sql authentication - we didn't change anything in the envirnomnet. We can connect using windows authentication - i have changed the sa password, checked to ensrue mixed authen., even created a new sql authen. user and receive the same error. I know state 8 reports a missmatched password.

Does anyone have any idea's?

thank you

This error is when trying to connect through management studio

What's the verbiage that comes up on the screen when you try to connect via the management studio.

Cannot connect to SQL01

Additional information:
login failed for user sa (microsoft sql server, error 18456)

**This is with sql server authentication

IF i connect using windows authentication, and look at the error log, the 1st post contains that information.

I have even tried created an additional login, and that fails. I have checked to ensure tcp/ip is enabled.

This blog shows what the various states mean.

State 8 is a wrong password issue. Passwords are case sensitive now. Caps Lock perhaps?
