unable to connect to your master groupwise system

I am unable to use send/recieve and hit the road. I am using a vpn connection and can connect to groupwise if I choose "no" to connect to the remote mail box. I can also connect to my remote mail box but when ever I try to send/recieve I get the message "unable to connect to your master groupwise system". I am using Groupwise 5.5.
any suggestions

There were a few possible causes contained in TID's when I typed in "unable to connect to your master groupwise system"
in Novell's KnowledgeBase. All seemed to relate to GW 5.5.x.
Possible causes ranged from DNS to damaged queue files. Which were dependent upon the Client to PO connection type.
