After removing 491 SpyWare entries found by SpyBot, I can no longer enter the Internet through ONLY IE 6.0. Norton System Works can access the Internet fine. I am running Win XP Home Edition on an eMachine. The ONLY SpyWare I cannot delete, even from inside the Registry is BTIEIN. It denies me access, even from inside the Registry. I have already gone through the deletions, doing it manually, from a site online. The ONLY thing I didn't do was "Unregister" the "btiein.dll" using "regsvr32". I think the machine still has a grip on it somehow, and it's blocking the Internet access.
Should I reinstall the SpyWare and start over--or do I need to reinstall IE6--on Win XP Home.
I'm interested in some of your ideas--before I go any further on "regedit".

Hey guys---just in case it matters--this is NOT a PAY job. This is a favor for a lifelong friend of mine, for his 3 nieces and one nephew. The machine did NOT work well when I turned it on last night. It took well over 5 minutes to boot up.
I ran Spy-Bot, since they had it loaded on there, and found 422 issues to be dealt with on the first run. After deleting the "offensive" programs I got it down to 172. There were still a few left, BUT, I now had Internet service, which I didn't have before.
NOW, I updated SPY-BOT and it caught another 69 errors. When all was said and done, IE6 does not talk to the Internet, yet all the other programs do.
I'd really like to hear any input on this if any of you guys ever came across it.
If not, I'm just going to delete the entire winsock and it's related values and make WIN XP build it again on boot.
Maybe next time you'll be able to help me. You guys have done GREAT in the past. Take care and be well.

Jimmy

I am having the same problem. Can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I check the registry but cannot find anything obvious. Any help is appreciated. The winsock download provided by bcastner is not an option. too intrusive.

BCASTNER YOU ARE A GOD!

I was pulling out the last four hairs on my head when I read your post, and applied WinSockfix...AND IT WORKED!

Apparently there's a spyware out there that is related to BTIEIN, and what jimmy was talking about. It helps to destroy your winsock.

Well, its fixed (but it trashed my VPN.) No biggy, I reinstalled, and I'm golden.

Thanks!
