Ok I must be missing something simple here. Just installed a new 2003 standard server into domain all servers are now 2003 if I'm at the data center site I can connect to and use the all available shares on this new server but at a remote office connected via private T1 frame I can not connect to the shared drive, I can ping it, RDP into it, I can get to all shared drives on all other servers just not this new one. Any insite?

Firstly, when you say you can ping it, do you mean by hostname or IP address? Are you trying to access the mapped drive by hostname or IP address? Basically what I'm getting at here is have you checked that DNS is functioning properly and that your remote clients can resolve the hostname :)

Next thing I would check is if there are any firewalls between the remote site and your data center (I presume from your post that this is where the server is located?) If so then you may need to check if any ports need to be opened here. Try telnetting to the file server on port 135 or 445 - if the screen goes black, then the ports should be open.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on!!

I can ping the server both by hostname and IP. When telneting to server on ports 135,445 screen goes black as expected since the 2 networks are coneted via private network there are no firewalls between these 2 sites

If there are no firewall issues, have u tried accessing using the IP address of the server instead of the hostname.

Also when trying to connect to the shares, are you logged using your account or are you on someone else's machine and trying to authenticate as yourself to the shares

You didn't indicate as to what error message you get when you try to access the share. Please provide this info also.

If Windows firewall is enabled, check the scope for the file and print sharing entry to be sure that the VPN subnet is allowed to access. If the server is using static IP, check the IP configuration to be sure that the subnet mask is entered correctly.
