Hi All

Wonder if anyone can help.

I've recently started working at a company whos backups were basically not working at all. Having spent a couple of weeks getting everything working OK, I've now run into a major problem.

Yesterday afternoon, unbeknown to me, one of the support team working on another project ran DCPROMO on one of the servers here, which turned out to be the SQL server that Backup Exec was using. Since this was done, several of the Backup Exec services on the backup server will no longer run. The most meaningful error i get is

The backup exec device and media service could not start because the database recovery has failed. Refer to the database recovery log for details.

What i am trying to work out is whether the process of the SQL server being rebooted while I was using the backup software could have caused corruption, or whether the DCPROMO could have somehow changed the permissions so the services can no longer connect to the database. Or is this pure coincidence and the cause is something else.

At this stage, all I can think is that I am going to have to uninstall the backup software and start again from scratch, so if anyone has any ideas as to a possible fix for this issue, it'd be very much appreciated.

Wouldn't mind quite so much if it wasn't for the fact that the day before yesterday was the first time all the backups had run sucessfully overnight in about 5 months, so to have finally fixed everything and then have the whole system break is just a nightmate. of course, i'd restore the SQL database from backup, but the backup server is broken!

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Chris
