Unable to connect new virtual server to existing content database

I removed the sharepoint extensions from a working virtual server to troubleshoot an issue and created a much bigger issue. When I try to connect the same virtual server that has been "re-extended" back up to the existing content database I have no success. When trying to add it under the "Add contact Database" in the Admin Site, I get the message "A database with the given name aleady exists on the specified database server". I believe my application pool accounts are set correctly and have double checked them. I ran an SQL script microsoft had in KB article #828815 (supposed to confirm app pool accounts are configured correctly) still with no success.

From what I've read so far, the only thing barring this reconnect is appropriate permissions and maybe using the "extend and map to another virtual server" option when applying the sharepoint extenstions to the site.

Any ideas why I can’t connect back up to the previous content database?

Thanks,

Stephen

Turns out I just didn’t understand how to “extend and map to another virtual server”. I even read articles that told me to use this function to attach an existing DB and tried. I don’t feel too bad about it because looking back, it is hard to make sense of what that function/page is all about. Definitely more to learn!
