Unable to commmunicate with Option 11 PBX using Dell Latitude D600 laptop with internal Conexant D480 MDC v.92 modem. Able to connect to PBX; getting screen with flashing underscore, but unable to communicate. If I remove the special character string "&fbs037=5", the modem will disconnect immediately. With the string the modem connects but doesn't communicate. Using the same settings as below.

Dell Latitude C500 with external Xircom 10/100+modem 56. Port rate =1200; parity = none; stop bits = 1; data protocol =standard; compression = enabled; flow control = hardware; Data protocol = standard. Special character string required: &fbs037=5. No issues with connection or communication.

Welcome any suggestions! Thanks, Kismetech

I need to communicate with three switches in three different states. They are all set at 1200 baud. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Having the exact same problem with the exact same dell laptop and have tried several terminal programs. I've heard that it is a modem compatability problem but who knows? Anyone get this to work yet?

Try removing hardware and compression control. I also use
7, none, 1 for my setup with VT 100 or higher. This works
when I connect to the USR modem attached to our Option 11s
and 81.

Thanks for all the suggestions. So far, still experiencing the same issue. Contacted our pbx maintenance vendor and talked with their technicians. They use Dells and have to use an external modem to communicate with their own switches. Seems the Dell internal modems are incompatible with the switches. I have contacted Dell to try to resolve the issue, but no response so far. Thanks to everyone.

Its been quite a long time since this thread has been updated, but I've recently come across the same situation and have resolved it (using the same internal modem in the D600)

Baud rates can be between 1200 and 9600
Parity - None, Stop bits - 1, Data bits - 8
Turn off Error correction and compression

The final trick is to reduce the FIFO buffers on receive and transmit to 1 (their lowest)

I use Procomm Plus, but this should work for other apps.

Now you should connect.

never had a problem with my dell, but i do set up the switch modem so it will not attemp to autobaud, fifo buffer is default and usually set all my switches to 96..

I have had the same problem with a Dell Latitude. I have been using a PCMCIA modem. How do you get to where you can change the FIFO buffers? I also use Procomm.

To change the FIFO buffers go into the properties of the Conexant > advanced tab > advanced port settings.

There are two slide bars which both need to be on the far left (based on Win XP)

You will notice that the performance of the modem drops slightly, so remember to reset FIFO if you use the modem for other purposes as well.
