Hi. Something has affected my computer. Problem: When I right click 'My Computer' to open Device Manager, it won't open any system property. Also if I go into Control Panel , I cant click open the System icon. So I am currently unable to get into Device Manager in any way. This is driving me crazy. I know it must have been a virus from the web. I'm telling ya, there are some devious sob's out there. Also I'm having trouble extracting from Win98 cd. Iam not sure if this is related or if Im doing it wrong but I cant seem to extract a DLL file that MS Support forum KB article #197285 and 129605 told me could solve the problem.. Any ideas, please let me know. Thx! Win98 se

Have you installed and updated a virus scanner to scrub your system? It could also just be the .cpl file associated with system that is corrupted. You might be able to extract it (do a search for *.cpl, its probably system.cpl).

As to extracting files, copy the win98 folder off the cd to your hard drive, I'd just make c:\win98.

Then, you can run system file checker (SFC), and try to extract using c:\win98 as your source, instead of your cd-rom.
