Unable to clear status on print server

I have a print server with several dozen HP printers shared out on it. Every now and then one will display Out of Paper or Paper Jam for Status on the print server. Even after the jam is cleared or the tray refilled the status will remain at empty or jammed. I have cycled power on the printers, tried different setting under the Properties to clear these messages with no luck. Only thing that seems to work is to removed and re-add the printer. Is there an easier way to reset the status on the print server? The server is a Win 2000 machine.

A print server with several dozen printers shared out? What device are you referring to as a print server? A Windows 2000 server? Just want to be clear.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

if you just stop and start the spooler service that should reset the status
