Unable to change screen size to 1024 by 480 1

I am working on a Gateway GP7 with a Vivitron 1776 monitor using Windows 98. Since rebuilding the PC, I have been unable to increase the resolution beyond 640 x 480. (I am able to change the screen area setting in Display Properties, but when the system reboots, the change does not get applied).

I'm assuming that this is a problem with either the adaptor or monitor drivers.

System properties shows the display as an Nvidia Vanta (Gateway - English) v021.

Meanwhile the monitor shows "Plug and play Monitor (VESA DDC).

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
This is most likely,as you rightly though, a problem with your display driver.
Download the Windows 98 version of your graphics card driver.

Thanks guys. I found the correct combination of display and monitor drivers and it is now working fine.

Glad you got it working. I have the same issue. Can you share which drivers are needed and where to find them? I'd sure appreciate it.

It's a friend's PC. I'll try to talk them through looking up the settings/drivers and post them as soon as I can.

DON'T use the Plug and Play monitor driver with the Gateway Vivitron 1776 - It's not compatible. Windows has the driver built-in, so choose 'select driver from list' instead, and choose Vivitron 17. I can get 1280x1024 or even higher with some VGA cards (probably not good for the monitor though). You have to manually adjust the monitor controls for the best picture/sizing.
