hi,
i am not getting my hostname i typed
#hostname it will display unknown only

i have tried changing my hostname in /etc/hosts file
and also sys-unconfig
but the same problem persists

some one help me out

On sparc solaris you need an entry in /etc/hosts to tie the hostname to the IP address and a hostname.interface file
eg hostname.hme0 which contains the hostname only.

Following are the files which needs to be updated when changing the host name of a system. :)

/etc/hosts
/etc/net/ticolts/hosts
/etc/net/ticlts/hosts
/etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
/etc/hostname."interface-name"
/etc/nodename

Update the above files to reflect the new host name.

Are u using DHCP? Some DHCP servers can cause a system name to be unknown. U may also use "uname -S" to give a system a temp name

You could also use the sys-unconfig command and then reboot your system. This will then prompt you for the hostname, dns, ip, etc... Using this method you will not miss any of the files listed above.

I have used this during D/R testing and it saves a lot of time. During the boot process, it will also prompt you for your locale and country....
