I've had problems with Windows98 and it seems to have reset my PC to the default settings. I'm now asked for a user name and password each time I start up and if I chnage the colours and pixel size it just reverts back to the original setting. Also I used to be able to get 600,000 and 1 millions colours and now I can only have 16 or 256. Can anyone tell me what happened to my PC and a way to correct it.

Thanks

Mark

wrong display adapter driver. Most likely windows has picked the standard windows display adapter driver . You should have a display driver for the display adapter that your P.C is running . When the p.c boots up look at the screen as the display adapter type is usually displayed for a short time on the screen . The shop you purchased the computer from should be able to provide the display driver. If not it may be able to be downloaded from the internet . Once you have the driver software on a disk - start-settings-control panel - system - device manager . remove the display adapter and reboot machine . windows will detect the display adapter and gives an option to provide the driver from the manaufacturer .put in the disk . The password could be a cmos password if it comes up before the windows start screen . if it is in windows you need to go into start-settings-control panel - network . Remove Windows Logon option . if you cannot get into windows at all press F8 when starting windows comes up and select safe mode so you can fix the problem . The display adapter problem could have been caused by someone removing the display adapter from the system device manager and then rebooting the machine ..
