Well I have upgraded to Netbackup 5.1 MP4 in hopes of not having the problem with jobs that get humg up in Activity monitor and not being able to cancel or delete them. These jobs can get hung up for a number of issues, like network timeouts, bpcd on media server losing connection, etc...

Once they are in activity monitor and get hung up, the only way to get rid of them is when all of the jobs have completed, they will get cleaned up. I know how to delete the job files, etc, but that is unreliable. WHY can't I cancel these jobs out of the activity monitor? This causing problems with the operation people, not knowing what is a good job etc....... Any thoughts would help.

I have opened a number of cases with Veritas, to no avail.............

Hi,

I had the same problem. I had call the netbackup support and the only things they can tell me is : "I don't know how I can resolve this problem, if you restart the machine, maybe the problem will be resolved".

So netbackup support, the problem isn't worrying.

SO if you have a solution, I want it.

Bye

There should be a way to clean them out of the jobs directory. I'm not sure of the steps since 5.x with all of the retries, etc...

I asked this same question on the Auburn email list and only got the "restart services" or "wait" replies.

Sounds like NetBackup support should have escalated the question to engineering. Someone in engineering must know how it is doen since it is done by Netbackup cleanup.

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

If you restart Netackup the jobs will go away. kind of extreme though imo. We are 24/7 so restarting isn't cool.

We've had one job hung since, 2/8/06 but it doesn't have a process tied to it so oh well.
