Hi all

I am hoping someone can help me find a solution to this problem.

I have desktop PC reasonably new running Windows XP home edition. Currently the system will not boot to Windows or into safe mode using an XP disk I can get to command prompt so can access the pc that way. However I am unable to run a C:/dir comes back with an error each time also when trying to boot directly to Windows the dreaded blue screen of death appears with the error

"Unmountable boot sector"

I am wondering wether to run the FIXMBR or FIXBOOT utilities however I do not want to make the HD inaccessible and potentially loose any data.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed from here
