i have arcserve 2000(advanced ed. v7.0 build 1086) and i'm running on w2k server(1ghz. cpu and 1ghz. ram) w/ lotus domino on it. initially i had a problem with the dlt and it wasn't recognized by the system.
i replaced the dlt and now the system and arcserve recognized the hardware.

my problem now is, when i tried backing up i get many error messages: E-4106(unable to add job record), E-4107(unable to update job record), W-3404(unable to open file), W3961(file cannot be found), W-3963(file contents have changed) and W-3964(file size changed). according to the log, this job is [incomplete].

arcserve is able to format and prune the media successfully.

what am i doing wrong?
sorry if its a long problem, but i'm really desperate. :-(
i heard that i shouldn't run arcserve with lotus domino.

thank you in advance for everyone's input and for this great website(tek-tips.com) :)

Are all these errors located in one area or are they located throughout the job? (are they at the beginning, or at the end, or around the domino backup).

There shouldn't be a problem with lotus domino on the same server unless you try to backup the files as they are up and running.

First 2 error shows that arcserve DB is corrupt. You need to run ARCserve Admin, click on DB Engine tab, click on Operation menu, then "initialize db" to create new DB.
W3404 shows you need OFA.
The rest are normal. W3961 shows some files(mostly temp files) cannot be found during actual backup. You can put filter to avoid those this warning code. For the next two, you can't do much as the file content changed during backup so ignore them.

thanks for all of your input.

to answer [arcserveguru's] question, the errors are seen in the beginning and in the middle. while the warnings are seen in the middle and at the end of the backup process.

After you've tried the database suggestions by easygo, you may want to try bringing down all the engines, then going to the arcserve directory. Rename the 0000001.qsd foler to 0000001.old, then restart the engines. Go back into ARCserve and recreate the job from scratch, do not load a previous job script. From the sounds of the warnings, it sounds like the backups aren't being performed dynamically. Make sure the green boxes are solid for dynamic.

There are some command lines that can be run for the ARCserve database, the link to the page is:.....

As easygo mentioned, the job record errors indicate the database may have a problem.

hope this helps

We installed Novell 5.1 with Arcserve 7 on a Dell 2550 server in February of 2002. Have just had our second instance of database corruption. Current error messages: "E1039 Failed to flush Tape Driver buffer - Drive or Media Failure." (Problem is not with tape..we've tried others and also ran cleaning tape.) Also: E"4205 Arcserve database file ASJOB.DB failed on integrity check." Novell support suggests "if the error message indicates ASJOB.DB, then with ARCserve running at the server console prompt type: ASDB F=ASJOB.DB. The repair will run immediately. A separate screen will display the status of the repair." I did this and nothing runs and no messages appear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
