When trying to test backup proceedures using SPSbackup I get the following event in the application log

Date: 2/8/2555
Source: SharePoint Portal Server
Time
Category: None
Type: error
Event ID: 0
user N/A
Computer:
Description:
Current topology is unsupported.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

How does your Topology look like? Are you running the SQL on a separate machine? Checked any other log files for SPS to see if anything is logged there?

Regards,
Thomas

SQL is run locally on the Portal Server and we have a remote server running TeamSites that points back to the portal server's config database (for audiences and permissions et al)

There are no errors in the event logs, and the performance of SPS is not affected, but I am unable to get a good backup.

Update:

When looking in Portal admin tool, on the Farm Topology page there is an error stating that the topology is not supported.

Configuration database server: <SPS server>
Content database server: *<SPSserver>, <WTS server>
Component settings database server: *<SPSserver>, <WTS server>
Single sign-on credentials: unknown
Global e-mail server: <SMTPserver>

Could having DBase options on the WTS server be preventing the server from being backedup and generating the topology error?

Hello,

Without having looked deeper into this I would say that having the two different SPS and WTS databases causes this error, but I am not sure!

You have the content databases for the WTS sites on the WTS server I guess? Might be an idea of moving them over to the SPS servers SQL instance. This should should ofcourse be done in an test environment first!

I can do some investigations regarding this, I need to anyway since I am in the process of migration all SharePoint databases we have over to a SQL cluster.

Regards,
Thomas
