Unable to backup - error 3098/0144 Failed to login to server xxx

Recently upgraded to Arcserve 7.0 for Netware, for the first couple of weeks the jobs ran fine, but recently have all failed because of the error above. We've verified the original backup user exists and even created a new user with full rights to the servers, with no result. The server is running 4.10 Patchkit8 (assume that means SP8). Confirmed from the ASRPC.log file that it is using SPX to do the backup job (all the other servers are NW 4.11 SP6 or higher).
Tried to look both error nos up on CA's site, been through all the help for 0144 with no success. Error 3098 doesn't seem to be listed.
Any help appreciated,
