I have two problems!....

Heres what has happened:

I have recently installed a new exchange server and moved all the mailboxes from the old to the new one succesfully. I have installed backup exec 8.6 with the exchange agent. I am recieving the following errors:

1. The item \exchsrvr\DSADATA\dir.edb in use - skipped.
The item \exchsrvr\MDBDATA\PRIV.EDB in use - skipped.
The item \exchsrvr\MDBDATA\PUB.EDB in use - skipped.

2. Unable to attach to \\RFDEXCH001\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes.
Access is denied.

I initially thought that the second error was due to the backupexec account being hidden from the address book. I unhid it and I am still getting the same error. I have seen also that the priv & pub.edb files are NOT backed up during an exchange backup....this can't be right.

I would be greatful for any thoughts from anyone

Item 1 is normal, the Exchange databases are open and therfore skipped in the file backup portion of your job. They are instead backed up through the ESE engine and Exchange agent and must be selected as such in your job. Choose the option to backup the "Microsoft Exchange Information Store". The results of this will show up as a different entry in your job log. If you choose the option to backup the Mailboxes, which is kinda redundant if you backup the stores, there are specific steps involved in making this work, including creating a mailbox for use by backup exec and granting extra rights on the mailboxes involved - check the Exchange Agent help file. Generally most people just backup the stores because its much quicker, however the process for recovering the contents of a single mailbox is much more intensive.

HTH.
