I am currently backing up 2 drives over the network (D$ and E$)and keep getting a "cannot attach : access denied" error.

It works with the administrator account as the service account but not with the backup exec service account that was originally created.

This has only started happening after a re-think of the backups.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

to do the server with the d$ and e$ and set the share perms and security perms so that BE account can access them.

Chances are that the BE account doesn't have local admin rights on the box you are trying to backup, would suggest backup operators and Administrators group on the box that contains the data to be backed up

If the servers are in a domain you shouldnt have to have local admin rights as the domain BE account rights should be sufficient (add the BE account to domain admins if nesscessary). If your domain admin rights let you access the server for backup i would change your default attach info to be the domain admin account. I know this is more of a work around & isnt really solving your problem but at least you should be able to get backups.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I have the same problem after a reboot of all servers in my domain. I found if I log into the servers with the backupexec account the backup runs fine. I am still wondering why backups that have worked for 2-1/2 years started acting up after a simple reboot.
