Hi Everyone,

The apply of NT 4.0 SP6a broke the functionality of backing up a remote
Exchange 5.5 SP4 server from a BE 8.6 SP6a backupserver. In the logging we
see 'unable to attach \\...\Information Store' and \\...\Directory Store'.
Device not responding.

We tried already a lot of things:
* the new serial numbers for BE, BE Agent and Exchange Agent
* re-apply SP6a and SP4 on the Backup server and Exchange server
*after that installed BE software again.
*checked 'edbbcli.dll' version (is from SP4)
*Logged on to the Exchange server using backup exec account and started backup
*checked permissions of backup exec service account on site exchange

Did somebody heard about the SP6a is doing something with Exchange backup?
Is SP6a the problem because we are having these problems after installing
SP6a and before al that we had no problems with SP5 (w/all hotfixes) on the
Backup Exec server.

Latest v8.6 build 3878 was also not the solution......

Please o Please...HELP..

I've checked the 'event viewer' on the Backup server and Exchange Server but no events regarding 'username and password.

I've also tried:
stopping BE services, delete bewinui.uni, started BE services, attach (on backup tab) on domain level with 'Default attach info...' with the BE servie account wich is also Domain Admin.

I've been running a backup with NTBACKUP and then I can attach and backup the IS and DS of the remote EX server.

Strange, but I think it's something with the attach information, but I can't figur out what. Yaah, installing SP6a broke the functionality.

More suggestions...? Please...

Uninstall sp6a?!!!

Are you absolutely sure you didn't do anything else?

Is the remote agent running on the Exchange Server?

Also try changing this reg key on the Backup Exec server to 1
hklm\software\veritas\backup exec\engine\ntfs\restrict anonymous support

Try installing the Exchange Administrator to the Backup Exec server and reapply Exchange service pack to it. (or simply update edbbcli.dll and mapi32.dll.

Check Exchange is enabled in tools/options - by the sound of it, it is.

Yes !!!

Bobafet is great!

I saw the artice of Veritas:

After Creating a user defined share, with Restrict Anonymous Support Enabled, the Information store is not visible in the selections dialog.

But, only changing the RegKey on the BE server from 0 to 1 (decimal) and re-booting was enough.

So, I still think SP6a broke the functionality because of some encrytion or security Reg setting.

Now I have the following configuration:
Backup Server: NT4, SP6a, BE 8.6 3878, BE Agent for Exchange, BE Remote Agent (Acc)and MS Exchange Administrator 5.5 (with SP4).
With the regkey changed to 1 (instead on default 0)

Remote Exchange Server:
NT4, SP6a, Exchange 5.5 (+ SP4) and BE Remote Agent Acc.

THX a lot....See ya around.
