Unable to attach files to emails?

One of our remote workers has a small network at his home. He has Windows XP Home Edition running on the 3 computers. However, he is unable to attach files to his emails using Thunderbird, Hotmail, Outlook, Gmail etc. It just times out.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate your expertise.

Not really. If it happens with multiple mail clients, the cause is probably something other than the mail client itself. Does Windows Explorer work properly otherwise? Be sure to try all the different possible 'views' when testing. My offhand guess is that there might be a problem with a particular Explorer view.
