unable to apply security updates to XP home

I have XP home ed SP1

My "windows update" scan fails with Ox800705AA

I loaded MBSA and used that to scan the machine. it showed MS04-024 missing. Installing the update failed during the initial setup step with "setup cannot copy the file fldrclnr.dll" A check in the directory shows the file is there..

Any clues???

When was the last time you were able to successfully run MS Update? Have you changed any settings since then? You are not going to D/L SP2 are you? This would be disaster because at this point it makes most of your software become in operable.

Also, I ran into this problem because of a virus/trojan blocking the site. I would d/l Spybot-Search and Destroy...do a Google search/it is free.

If you are running Home addition, you will be quite surprised if you don't find something with Spybot.
