Unable to add symbols

After I work on a file for a while, occasionally Flash will stop letting me drag symbols from the library to the work area. I'll have to restart Flash for it to work again. Both Flash 4 and 5 have done this. Is there some way to stop this?? I'm using a mac and I have devoted over 50 meg of memory to Flash alone, yet still I have this problem. I have 192 meg of RAM so there shouldn't be a problem. Is there something I'm missing?
