I am running a Domino/Notes system that was set up by my predecessor. Up until recently I have had no problems adding, deleting, etc. users from the system. Now when I try to do so, it tells me I am not authorized, even though I am switching to the ID (his)that has always allowed me to do so in the past. I have made no changes to my server other that installing Windows 2000 Server updates 3-4 weeks ago, which should have made no difference. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? Thanks!

It sounds like a change was made to the ACL of the Domino Directory ( names.nsf ) or to a group. Did you recently remove your predecessor's name from the Administrators group?

Check the ACL to see what type of access you and your predecessor have. Also make a note of which servers, people and groups have manager access. Look specifically for a server name with an icon of a server with a yellow key beside it. This will be the Administration server for this database. Do one of the following....

a) Find someone else in the organization who has manager access either by Administrator group membership or direct access in the ACL. Have them add you to the Administrators group.

b) ( Windows based Servers )
- At the server console of the Administration server, run nlnotes.exe using the server's ID file.
- Open names.nsf locally and add yourself to the Administrators group.
- To open a database locally, select "Local" in the "Server" box in the Open Database dialog.

c) ( Windows based Servers )
- Make a local replica ( not a new copy ) of the Domino Directory on your workstation, but do not copy the ACL. This will give you manager access.
- Add yourself to the Administrators group.
- Carefully change the ACL on the local copy to match the one on the server copy.
- If you have more than one server, place a check mark in the "Temporarily disable replication" box in the replication settings for this database.
- Shut down the Domino server and move the names.nsf file from the server's Data folder to a safe place and replace it with your local copy.
- Start the Domino server.
- When you are satisfied that all is well, re-enable replication.

This last method can be tricky.
- Depending on your level of access, you may not be able to scroll through all the roles assigned to people, groups and servers.
- You will also have to remember to make sure you check the "Enforce a consistent Access Control List across all replicas of this database" box in the Advanced options.
- Don't forget to assign the Administration Server in the Advanced options.
- If things blow up when you restart the server, shut it down again and replace your new copy of names.nsf with the saved original. Restart the server.

Good luck
