Unable to add network printer.

I have 3 computers networked, 2 are using XP SP1, (SP2 is not an option as it's a memory and resource hog), the other computer is using 98SE.

The problem is, even though the 2 computers are running XP SP1, I can not add a network printer on one of the XP machines, when I click on 'Add a Printer', then click 'next' then select 'Network printer or printer attached to another computer' then click 'Next', then select 'Browse for printer', then click 'Next', the network printer is detected with the correct name, and when I select it, it warns me that I'm connectiong to a remote system, and shouild I continue, which I click on 'OK' then windows displays 'The server that has the \\printername does not have the correct printer drivers installed'

Yet I can use the printer on the computer that it's connected to with no problem.

It's telling you there isn't a driver for the computer you are trying to connect. Get the driver for that OS from the printer mfg. and install it on your computer.

I checked the 'Additional drivers' in the sharing section for that printer, and the driver for XP shows as being installed.

is your printer being share thru another computer or the printer is setup on a print server?

The key to this issue, as it can be for other pesky Windows issues, is the delete the share and recreate it.
Not only for the workstation offering the share, but as well for all clients.

Delete the share and rebuild.

I tried the printer software uninstall, then reinstalled the software, then deleted the share, and re-created the share, but the client still can not install a netowrk printer from the host.

I was hoping you would delete both Host and Client shares, but I agree with you something else is wrong.
