I just installed a brand new quantum 30gig hd
on an IBM aptiva, it is a 120 pentium and originally had a 1.2 gid drive, the bios says that the drive is not installed ,all cables are conected ,am i missing something, i want to put a win ME os on the drive

Check the drive is jumpered correctly - if possible check how the old 1.2Gb drive was set (I know it might be a comletely different drive but it might show you if it was set, for example, to cable select etc.)... Can you hear if the drive is spinning up? Try connecting the drive to the second IDE interface. Check the drive on another machine maybe? Make sure the IDE interface(s) are enabled in the BIOS.

The BIOS quite possibly cannot see a drive that big.The older ones where limited to if I remember correctly 8 GB.
You could try the drive overlay disks that come with the hard drive. The utility will let the BIOS see the drive.
