IE6 on W2K (both fully patched) with Norton AV, Zone Alarm, Adaware, Spybot, SpySubtract, CWShredder running (all come up clean) with AOL as Broadband ISP on two machines (one on a wireless network) via a Netgear DG834G.

Can't access some pages from IE, but can from AOL, and as has just become one of these, can't use MSN so getting offspring pressure! (. for . throughout this post)

It's not secure sites and now can't get any Windows Updates unless I go from within the AOL browser, but as I can acces from AOL I know the pages are OK!!

Error message is "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings." with "Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer " at the end

Using NSLOOKUP for gives 207.046.144.188

Entering gives the web page in AOL but IE6 has same error

Pinging or gives (another no show site) Time Out (other sites are OK)

tracert gets as far as hop 15 pos1-0.iuscixtukc1202.ntwk.msn.net and then stops

Also noticed that some pages fail to display first time, but do if I refresh (F5) them

Lmhosts is comments only, Hosts file has comments and 127.0.0.1 local host

Ideas?

FAQ779-4625 Looked to do that, but, checking it was OK for W2K, I manually tried "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" at the command line and got "The following command was not found: int ip reset resetlog.txt" so am loathe to stuff the machine and not be able to execute this part of the recovery script.

I also thought I only had one IP stack, and as AOL has no problems it wouldn't be there (he says to justify the wimp out)

Already cleared the deleted Temporary Internet Files directory, no better on any of the user Id's

... willing to try more and feedback I've had elsewhere says I am not alone!

. int ip reset resetlog.txt will not work under Win2k, only XP

Further, this does not handle winsock corruption, which is what I suspect is your issue.

. WinsockFix will work under Win2k without issue. See the link in the FAQ above.

. It is important to note that it is not an empty TIF that is at issue, but the index.dat file for the TIF. That is why i referenced instructions for removing the cache completely so that index.dat could be rebuilt.

Tried the WINSOCK fix (ran OK - thanks), and deleted the "Temporary Internet Files" directories for a couple of user accounts, and deleted the files on the Administrator account directory, but still have the same happening from all accounts on the machines.

Any thoughts?

Broadband now with the G834G wireless router, though I had this issue with when I was getting Broadband and a netwrok before Christmas. Its just the past few days that MSN/ have stoped and therefore now that I need to fix it.

Thanks

I must be going mad. You've solved half the problems as I've got MSN and back, but still not accessable from IE, many many thanks :))))

I must have scrolled the MTU when checking it when things first went wrong (a glitch with MSN by looking at other posts) - so thanks and I'll go and soak my head in a bucket whilst standing in the corner - bad Bob, silly Bob ...

Now to get to Belkin via IE ... and then the lotto numbers please
