Hi,

I am new to the Pix world and I am having a problem setting up my pix to allow Internet access from the inside. So far I have gotten to the point where I can ping an ip address on the public network(outside) in the form of x.x.x.x from inside my firewall. I can also ping my outside interface from the public network. I know that once I move to production I should turn this off.

The main problem I am having right know is that I am unable to access(ping, telnet, tracert, http) any resolved address(name.com) from my inside network. I am also unable to access any outside web site's using the ip address(x.x.x.x) however I can ping(x.x.x.x).

My configuration is a single pix 506e. The inside is connected to a switch. Two w2k servers are also connected to the switch. The outside is connected to my dsl line via pppoe. I have listed the pix config file below. I have dhcp configured on the pix and it is assigning addresses to the servers correctly.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

wc

Yikes! Very scarry... You have the PIX allow everything in and everything out in your current configuration.

Are you sure you can access resolved names? Try to ping and see if you are getting replies. It might be that your inside clients aren't using DNS servers. I see you didn't mention any DNS servers in your DHCP configuration.

I know abbout the access list. I only have it set up that way as I am trying to resolve this problem.

I am not able to access resolved names( That is the key problem. Maybe I phrased it wrong in my original message. What is to config param to associate the DNS server with the DHCP config? I thought that was taken care of by the following line

ip address outside pppoe setroute.

Am I mistaken?

Thanks

dhcpd dns xxx.xxx.xxx.1 xxx.xxx.xxx.2
!Two DNS servers
dhcpd wins xxx.xxx.xxx.1 xxx.xxx.xxx.2
!Two WINS servers

Hey Bad Dos,

The missing DNS entry was the problem. Name resolutin is now working on my inside network. Thanks much for your help. Now I need to go figure out how to shut down all those holes I opened up trying to make this thing work.

Thanks again,

W

Just for info, the "dhcpd auto_config outside" command will transfer all parameters given to you from the isp to your own dhcp server in the pix, i.e the DNS.
