Hi,

I am unable to access all https website on my Windows Server 2003(R2) platform. I had added the website into the Trusted Sites Zone and even uninstalled the IE Enhanced Security Configuration to no avail.

I have no problems accessing the same website on another old Server 2003 platform that has no Service Packs installed though.

I roughly guess that it could be due to the Service Pack. Does anyone has a solution for this?

Thanks in advance and with much appreciation.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. I had downloaded and installed both Firefox and Avant Browser but still no luck.

What service pack level are you on.

I think SP2 has a build in firewall.

Are you using a proxy server?

It is Server 2003 R2 (SP2). I had already turned off the firewall but still no luck.

I'm going to assume that you can get to http sites correctly. Have you looked at your IE settings? Are you using SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 (all have a check mark)? Have you bounced what you have on the other server (settings wise) off of the none working server? You don't say whether this is a domain member server or stand-alone server, but have you ensured that Group Policy (if a domain member server) is applying correctly?

All of the 3 settings (SSL 2.0, 3.0 and TLS) are all checked. The Server Service Pack is the only difference between the 2 Servers. The old Server is not installed with any service packs. The new Server is a Domino Server and is not within a domain (we are not in a AD environment).

disregard my last post. You do mention in your original post that you can access the same site from another server. This has nothing to do with the service pack level. Do you have a firewall managing your network? Have you checked your firewall policy to verify if this server is allowed to access https?

Thank you for your suggestions. I spent the whole morning checking through my firewall's policies. There is a policy on opening up a tcp port (443) for the servers. I added another one, opening up a http port (443) instead. It works after that.

Are you able to shed some light on the difference between the 2 protocols?

Your welcome.

https (uses port 443 by default). You need to have this port open for your servers to be able to access https sites.

You can do a google search for tcp and port 443 and https and port 443. The articles you pull up from here would give you a better explanation than what I could give you.

Regards,
Zoey
