My apolgies in advance if this is a stupid question but I have no knowledge of NetWare at all.
I have installed an application at a customers site where they use NetWare 5. The application has a master installation that is on one of the servers(which is working fine) and has the facility to install clients on various PC's around the customers site. When a client installation is performed the actual setup appears to work fine but if I run the application I get an error message that certain files are missing and then an error that the application cannot find the path.
I have never had this occur before and I can only conclude that it is something in the way NetWare works. Unfortunately the customer is not 100% with NetWare either.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

All the best,

Dave.

You say the master installation on the server works fine - do you mean the server itself or can you run the program successfully off the server?

Some more details would help, but my guess is has to do with search paths. Is the local installation path of the program in the path? Try mapping a NetWare search drive to the program (or data) location on the NetWare file server.

Many thanks for the reply.
A bit more info:
When I perform the master install it puts the files on the server, creates a program group on the installing PC and places a shortcut to the .exe on the desktop. Double clicking the icon runs the application successfully.
When I do a client install it installs VB runtimes and some other necessary dll's and ocx's on the client PC and adds a shortcut to the desktop. Double clicking this icon gets an error that the .ini file (the same one that the master uses) cannot be found and the app terminates.
It is almost that the .ini file is "hidden" and can only be seen by the master install.

All the best,

Dave.

In the properties of the shortcut for the EXE, is it pointing to an EXE on the server or on the local workstation?

What is the working directory in the properties of the client install shortcut? I would make sure this is set to the network directory where the program is installed.

You could also try to map a search drive to that directory and try the app. So if the app is located on
FS1/SYS:\apps\vbapp
drop to dos and:
MAP Insert s1:=FS1/SYS:\apps\vbapp
If the mapping solves the issue, add it to the login script.

P.S. - I assume that you are using the same user account when trying the app from the master account and the client install PC. If not, that may be the problem.
